The highly competitive electronics manufacturing marketplace demands suppliers provide low cost, high quality products to their customers in a timely fashion. Traditional manufacturers are now focusing on company's core competencies, choosing to outsource the actual manufacturing of their products. The decision to outsource often affects many key areas of the manufacturing supply chain.
No single enterprise in today's global marketplace has the full range of skills and experience needed to realize market opportunities in a timely and cost effective way. When electronics manufacturer and Contract Manufacturer ( CM ) work together to harness the combined knowledge of both parties, the result is powerful.
The introduction of CM has altered the electronics manufacturing process and marketplace. Every year more companies are outsourcing many of their products with other companies that can do a better job in manufacturing products. The outsourcing of electronics manufacturing through CM is continuing to grow about 25% per year and this trend is expected to continue into the future.
The motivators for this trend are the following:
Short product life cycle
Cost reduction achieved through large volume procurement of consumables and components, better utilization of high cost capital infrastructure, and manpower and needed process control leading to improved yield with better quality.
Technology access/ access to new markets
