Goa State Broad Band Network (GBBN)
The Government of Goa (GoG) has embarked on an ambitious initiative to create a high-bandwidth broadband network covering the entire State of Goa.
Geographically, Goa is a small State with an area of 1,429 square miles (3,702 square km) divided into two districts North Goa, with its State headquaters (HQ) in Panjim and South Goa with its headquaters in Margao. Panjim also acts as the headquaters for the State of Goa. The two districts are comprised of 11 Taluks (6 in North Goa & 5 in South) and 13 Municipalities and a total of 403 villages. The State of Goa has 2119 schools, 24 colleges, 32 government hospitals and currently 123 private hospitals.

The GBBN will cover all of Goa from the State HQ at Panjim upto the village level and the households. The Government of Goa intends to establish 10 Gbps connectivity from Panjim to all Districts and Talukas, 1 Gbps connectivity from headquaters of all Talukas to all villages and 10 Mbps connectivity to the households through this initiative. The Department of Information Technology, Government of Goa, desires to establish the network through a combination of Optic Fiber Cable (OFC) across the length and breadth of the State up to the village level and also have wireless technology deployed where OFC connectivity cannot be given due to topological constraints. It also proposes to provide at least 1 GB connectivity to all the Government offices/educational and research institutions.
