The Advantage

The Energy / Demand recording is done in multiple registers which are switched automatically based on the real Time Clock. Each register would be priced at a different amount, which can be decided by the utility billing system. This is a very complex, if not impossible, task with conventional meters, which in turn makes the meter reading & billing process a difficult and costlier affair.

There are practices of attempts to pilfer the energy by various means in the developing countries, which go un-noticed by the conventional meter. An 'Intelligent' Electronic Meter programmed to detect and record such attempts in its memory, and optionally generate a signal to the utility, can help prevent / reduce such fraudulent events

The Digital Meter can perform many operations simultaneously, simply by changing its program with little or no modification in its circuitry, catering to varied user requirements. Thus a single meter can replace many conventional instruments, especially in control applications.

The most important feature is the communication capability of the Electronic Meter, which makes Remote Meter Reading (RMR) a simple task as well as becomes a basic tool in the Automated Meter Reading (AMR) systems. This not only reduces the billing cycle but also makes it convenient for monitoring the meter, if necessary.
